Child Development Blog: Two Months & Two Years

2 month3iStock_000001798272XSmall

Check this blog out every month to see if your child’s development is where it should be. If you have any questions about your child development please contact us and we will provide you and your family with the answers you need.

TWO MONTHS: At two months, a child’s movements should be much more fluid then last months. A child begins to develop cues that tell parents what they are interested or uninterested in. The ability to smile develops between the second and third months, so get ready for some heartwarming smiles this next month!

TWO YEARS: Two-year-olds enjoy using their senses and motor skills to explore the world and are highly curious about unfamiliar objects, events and phenomena. They can solve simple problems with the “trial and error” method and will practice an activity many times to master it. Children this age also pretend more during play, using familiar objects and situations to process their daily experiences.

In March we will go over where your child should be at ages three months and three years old. Make sure that you check your child’s development every month!

Check the blog every month to see if your child’s development is where it should be. If you have any questions about your child development please contact us and we will provide you and your family with the answers you need.

ONE MONTH: At one month a baby should be moving their head from side to side, blinking at bright lights, bringing their hands to their face and responding to loud noises.

ONE YEAR: At one year a child should be triple their birth weight, crawl well, bang objects together, dance to music and gain attachment to objects like a favorite toy or blanket.

Look out in February to find out the next stages of development at month two and year two of a child’s life.

Fun With Therapy

This is a great article and pictures from a clinic in New York City.  They are very similiar to our practice.

At Watch Me Grow, a pediatric therapy center in New York City, physical and occupational therapists work with young patients with sensory processing disorders.

Sensory integration is the ability to use the senses to take in information, put it together with prior knowledge and memories, and create meaningful responses. Children who have sensory processing disorders don’t put all the pieces together correctly, impacting their motor and/or behavioral output.

Activities such as swings, ball pits and balance beams help children to engage their vestibular systems, strengthen their core muscles and coordinate their trunk control. Take a look at some of the fun ways therapists and patients combat sensory processing disorders.

A Step Ahead Taps The Eisen Agency to Create Awareness, Brand Campaign

Cincinnati, OH – July 25, 2011 – A Step Ahead Pediatric Therapy, a comprehensive pediatric rehabilitation practice based in Northern Kentucky, has partnered with premier Cincinnati public relations firm The Eisen Agency. The leading firm will create and implement a campaign designed to build awareness regarding the unique story of A Step Ahead and the importance and value of pediatric therapy.

Eisen will design and execute a proactive public relations, interactive, and direct response campaign that showcases the extraordinary efforts and true passion of A Step Ahead. Eisen president and owner Rodger Roeser says A Step Ahead is fast becoming the first-choice of families and medical practitioners for pediatric therapy in NKY counties.

“I truly believe that all small businesses can be more successful by doing a few simple things to share their story and project a strong, powerful and professional image,” Roeser said. “A Step Ahead is a prime example of a smart leader turning to professionals for help in his business growth, better enabling him to concentrate on caring for children, not attempting to build websites and make business cards.”

A Step Ahead currently provides therapy services to more than 300 children and their families throughout Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati. “I receive great satisfaction each day by helping children achieve new milestones and by helping their families learn and grow,” says Daniel Cross, president and managing therapist at A Step Ahead. “I am very proud of my organization and the community that has developed around the organization. My goal is to continue the growth and success of the company so that more children can be served and I am confident that the Eisen Agency will help us reach that goal.”
